Dürr is delivering its Paint Shop of the Future to CEER, Saudi Arabia’s pioneering EV brand, marking the first full implementation of this modular concept in an electric vehicle plant. The system stands out for its flexibility and sustainability, tailored to the demands of EV production where battery protection and energy efficiency take centre stage. Ordered in 2023 and now entering installation at the CEER Manufacturing Complex in King Abdullah Economic City, the facility will ramp up to production in Q4 2026, transporting car bodies via demand driven AGVs between stations while digital controls from the DXQ family minimize downtime through predictive analytics.
Engineers will appreciate how the setup fuses high tech automation with EV specific optimizations. In a single EcoProBooth, robots wield EcoBell4 Pro atomizers to coat interiors and exteriors simultaneously, meeting top paint quality standards without rigid line cycle times. For two tone finishes, the EcoPaintJet Pro applies contrasting colours and intricate patterns like logos overspray free, slashing paint use and eliminating masking tape waste, which streamlines customization in premium EV builds.
Sustainability drives the drying process too. EcoInCure ovens heat bodies from within, penetrating thick reinforced rocker panels designed to shield batteries during side impacts while avoiding overheating in thinner shell areas, cutting process time by up to 30 percent over traditional methods. Paired with electric Oxi.X RV exhaust purification via regenerative thermal oxidation, it scrubs oven air without open flames or combustion byproducts, slashing CO2 emissions in line with e mobility goals. DXQcontrol orchestrates it all as a microservices based MOM platform, handling planning, execution, monitoring, and component life forecasts to keep the factory humming efficiently. CEER’s CEO James DeLuca calls it a benchmark for customization and green manufacturing, while Dürr’s Lars Friedrich highlights its role in flexible, low waste vehicle finishing. This paint shop redefines automotive painting for the electric era.
