Maxiforja has commissioned a 6,500-ton forging press at its Canoas facility in Brazil, marking the largest installation worldwide to incorporate ANDRITZ Schuler’s Kinetic Energy Recovering System. The press entered production this month to support expanded manufacturing of heavy truck and agricultural equipment components.

The KERS technology reduces power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to conventional presses of equivalent capacity. This efficiency gain addresses increasing pressure on manufacturers to reduce energy costs while meeting sustainability targets in heavy industrial applications.

The GLK 6500 press was developed by ANDRITZ Farina in Italy and manufactured locally by Prensas Schuler in Brazil. The design integrates a Scotch Yoke mechanism directly into the slide assembly, creating a more compact footprint while improving dimensional tolerances of forged components.

Maxiforja can now produce knuckles weighing up to 40 kilograms, representing a significant capacity increase from its existing 800 to 4,000-ton press lineup. The Brazilian forging specialist, established in 1963, supplies components to manufacturers across the commercial vehicle and agricultural machinery sectors.

The installation reflects broader industry adoption of energy recovery systems in heavy manufacturing processes. Power consumption remains a critical factor for forging operations, particularly as component complexity and production volumes continue to increase across Latin American markets.

ANDRITZ Schuler reports the press represents its first major forging equipment sale to Maxiforja, suggesting potential for additional technology partnerships as the Brazilian manufacturer scales production capabilities.
