So the development of materials for the anodes, cathodes and electrolytes of batteries are key, as detailed in our focus on cathode materials on page 58. Also, new processes are making their production faster, more cost-effective and less polluting. At the same time, non-invasive battery test methods of exploring the performance of these materials and ensuring their suitability for production are improving, as detailed on page 34. But it is not just the battery materials that matter. The move to electric platforms is changing the way materials are used for construction, from those for thermal management (see page 64) to adhesives and acoustic materials, as we report in The Grid (page 6). The development of e-mobility systems rests as much on the engineering of materials as on the construction of the platforms.
